Mysterio music producer Astroboter from Germany opens another chapter of his unfolding concept story:
“Ambient Collection – One” is an anthology of experimental tracks recorded from 2006 until 2013. The release connects the loose ends between the debut album (released in 2012) and the upcoming, yet unscheduled full length album. While frozen in the Arctic icelands, Astroboters’ memories lived on in this seemingly infinite dream and freed his soul from the concept of time.
SIDE A features wide and open textures, layers of synthesizers and artificial sound effects. Long echoes and meditation sounds will drive you into eternity. Mystical atmospheres create an own kind of Nirvana and allow you to take a deeper look into your own mind. A couple of these tracks were featured on CD-Rs, which were hidden by Astroboter at various events while playing with the Post Rock band Aeronautix.
SIDE B is a whole different story:
Bored and tired of old ways to approach his Ambient productions, he wrote a very simple computer code to generate random settings which were based on a Fostex X-26 Tape recorder. This program generates four data sets which are categorized by Instrument, Sound, Mainpulation and FX. It also generates a random BPM and main key for your song. It will be released as a Smartphone App in 2014 and will enable people to create their own frameworks.
“I was fascinated by the techniques that people like Eno or Cage used for their recordings. Just for the fun of it, I thought to approach something like that. Even if it’s just a simple random-generator, it gave me a lot of new thoughts. You get a framework from which you have to start off. It’s like chess for musicians!”
The whole side consists of songs which frameworks were generated by the program. These sonic stunts were recorded on the same Fostex Tape recorder the datasets are based on. Even the track order lives & breathes song after song, like it was recorded during February 2013 in the Psychedelic Dungeon. In the pure tradition of Krautrock or Musique Concrete artists, Astroboter questions the concept of sound itself and finds his own answers.
“Ambient Collection – One” is available for free download and as a Limited Cassette Edition on Psychedelic Dungeon Records.
